Commission on Aging bylaws revised to extend terms and cap membership; board approves

Ed Sullivan, division chief for the Calvert County Office on Aging, presented recommended changes to the Commission on Aging bylaws and explained the rationale, including continuity of service and representation from partner organizations that do not reside in the county.
Sullivan said the commission recommended limiting regular voting members to no more than 16 residents or business representatives, extending regular member service from two to three consecutive four‑year terms, providing that an appointed local elected official serving on the commission would serve at the pleasure of the Board of County Commissioners rather than a fixed term, and increasing officers' terms from 12 months to two years. "As you know, there are some members of the Commission on Aging who are not residents of Calvert County. However, because of their the agency they represent, they do business in Calvert County," Sullivan said, explaining the inclusion of agency representatives.
A commissioner moved to approve the bylaw changes and authorize the president to sign the document on behalf of the board; the motion received a second and passed on a voice vote. Board members praised the staff and volunteers who support county seniors.
