Police Accountability Board forwards ADA training review to sheriff

The Police Accountability Board voted to forward a recommendation to the sheriff's office calling for periodic review of the sheriff's ADA procedures and training. The motion was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote.

"The 1st recommendation is a periodic review of effective, implementation of a ADA training and procedures. We do have those the procedures in place, and we're recommending just a periodic review," the Chair said during the discussion. Board members asked for the recommendation to be forwarded to the sheriff so the agency could consider implementation details.

Board members tied the recommendation to the board's review of 2024 complaint data. The Chair had summarized that the board received 30 complaints in 2024, 26 of which were reviewed by the Administrative Charging Committee (ACC), with two not eligible for review (for instance, outside jurisdiction or before 07/01/2022). The board did not set an exact review schedule in the motion; it directed the recommendation to the sheriff's office for action and follow up.

The board's action is procedural — forwarding a recommendation for executive review rather than imposing a mandate — and the sheriff's office retains authority to implement the training review or propose alternatives. The board indicated it will follow up through the ACC and in subsequent meetings.
