Bonduel committee recommends raising vehicle registration fee to $38, keeps $10 renewal

The Village of Bonduel Committee of the Whole voted to recommend that the Board set the handling fee for vehicle registrations at the new State maximum of $38.00 while keeping renewal transactions at $10.00. Clerk/Treasurer Michelle Maroszek said the State increased the allowable rates effective Oct. 1, 2024, and the change would better reflect the time staff spend processing registrations.
Maroszek explained that previously the Village earned about $8.15 per registration and $5.00 per renewal; under the new caps the Village could earn about $26.65 per registration and $11.25 per renewal. She said Computerized Vehicle Registration (CVR), the vendor that processes transactions for the Village, is not raising its handling fee, and staff asked CVR’s programmers to confirm the change is feasible. "This would increase the profit for the Village, but it may discourage customers from using the service because of the increased rates," Maroszek said. The Committee voted unanimously to recommend the $38 registration fee and $10 renewal fee to the Board, contingent on CVR program confirmation.
