Kalkaska commissioners approve range of administrative motions, from tax rate to materials management work plan

The Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners approved a series of administrative motions by consensus at the Sept. 10 Committee of the Whole meeting, covering tax-rate paperwork, personnel-authority adjustments, materials-management planning, and opioid-settlement participation.
Key actions approved by consensus (no recorded opposition) included: approval of the 2025 L-4029 tax-rate request and authorization for the Clerk and Chair to sign; waiver of a $3,500 GIS fee for MSU Extension and the 4-H Leaders Association in exchange for plat books and maps; approval of a one-year Medical Examiner contract with Andrew Long D.O. with three one-year renewal options; approval of an RSS contract (Oct. 1–Dec. 31, 2025) for $9,612 to continue materials-management plan work; affirmation of MMPC officers and bylaws and designation of Interim Administrator/CFO Patrick Whiteford as the primary contact for the planning committee; approval of an MMPC meeting per diem of $25 to be paid from the recycling budget and reimbursed by state funding; and authorization for the county to sign the National Opioid Settlement participation agreement (discussion noted that the county had received $126,000 in state reimbursement and that settlement funds will be used for the Live Well program).
Other procedural motions approved by consensus included a $250 reimbursement to Randy Mann for a special-use permit fee; authorization for Construction Codes to advertise for an additional plumbing and mechanical inspector and for the chair to sign contracts when approved by counsel; and permission for the Administrator to coordinate staffing shortages within department budgets for the remainder of 2025.
Most motions were moved by Commissioners David Comai or Jeff Sieting and supported by other commissioners; where a roll call was recorded, votes were unanimous among present members (for example, the motion to enter closed session under MCL 15.268(d) passed 6 yeas, 0 nays, 1 absent).
