The Henderson Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted April 21 to contribute $1,500 to the county election commission to help finance the August 2026 election. Kathy Vest, representing the Election Commission, told the board the county is "seriously struggling financially and has difficulty financing elections," prompting the board to act.
Alderman Mark A. Barber moved to approve the expenditure and Alderman Donna R. Butler seconded; the motion carried. The request came during the meeting's delegation period after city financial staff noted the city budgets money for elections but has not always spent it. The contribution will be paid to the county election commission to support the city's August election.
