Committee reviews five vehicle claims, considers route changes to reduce backing

Chair Brandon Hytinen reported five vehicle-claim incidents since the last meeting, including a Dec. 10 plow truck backing into a mailbox and pole, a Dec. 16 scrape in the STH 22 work zone at Gillett, a Dec. 29 backing contact with a passing vehicle, and structural damage to CTH-A bridge railings.
Corey Ondik told the committee that turnaround locations for larger trucks are inadequate in some areas and urged route changes to reduce the frequency of backing. The minutes record operational guidance: "Reminder to always use mirrors." The committee discussed relocating some routes and site set-ups to limit backing where practical.
