Oconto County highway safety subcommittee approves minutes, presses for improved PPE and equipment checks

The Oconto County Highway Safety Sub-Committee convened March 10 in the highway department conference room and approved the meeting agenda and the Nov. 11, 2025 minutes.
Chair Brandon Hytinen led a review of five recent vehicle-claim incidents and two work-comp reports. Committee members recommended operational changes including route adjustments to reduce backing maneuvers and a policy requiring face shields when loading mastic and rubber machines. The minutes note, "Reminder to always use mirrors." The committee also established that fire-extinguisher inspections be added to daily pre-trip checks and that an extra face shield be ordered and mounted on machines.
