Public Works Director Olson told the council the department currently rents a tele‑handler that is inadequate and not safe for the needed tasks; a used crane provides the required capability at a lower cost than a new crane (which Olson said would cost about $25,000–$30,000). On the sledge pump, staff explained the purchase avoids a larger outlay and keeps critical pump capability in‑house.
Why it matters: the purchases are intended to reduce recurring rental costs, improve crew safety and accelerate repairs for city infrastructure. Both motions carried unanimously.
