Mission Viejo to apply for OCTA grants to synchronize signals and add intersection capacity

Director Shagnon asked council to authorize submitting two grant applications to the Orange County Transportation Authority. The first would fund signal synchronization along La Paz, coordinated with Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel, and provide an 80% grant share for signal equipment upgrades. The second application proposes an intersection capacity improvement at Alicia and Olympiad, including a dual left‑turn lane; Shagnon said the project would be 75% grant‑funded.
Shagnon said OCTA decisions are expected next spring; if awarded, the city would budget for the projects in fiscal 2025–26. Council authorized the applications unanimously.
