Commission authorizes utility easement to Rocky Mountain Power for Elwood Road shed

Box Elder County commissioners unanimously authorized an underground utility easement to Rocky Mountain Power on June 25 to relocate overhead power lines to an underground configuration at the Elwood Road shed.
Road Supervisor Darin McFarland requested the easement; the county attorney brought forward Resolution #26-21 authorizing the conveyance. The recorded instrument grants a 10-foot right-of-way (5 feet each side of a defined centerline) for construction and maintenance of underground electrical and communications facilities, provides Grantee access for construction and repair, and reserves the county’s right to continue compatible surface uses such as agriculture while limiting placement of structures or storage within the right-of-way.
Why it matters: Converting overhead lines to underground service protects utility infrastructure from conflicts with future construction and reduces constraints on county maintenance activity at the site. The recorded easement also contains language that extinguishes prior easements over the parcel as of the county’s execution date.
Next steps: The commission authorized staff to execute the easement instrument. The county clerk will record the easement in the official land records and the county will coordinate with Rocky Mountain Power to schedule underground work.
