"There's no way in heck there's 23,000 tons of tipping fees available," Tom said, and he warned that unrealistic tonnage and optimistic tipping fees should prompt re-evaluation before additional county borrowing.
Flow Sandock, speaking during public comment, urged the board not to expand the landfill out of concern for groundwater in the Driftless Area and for local tourism that depends on a reputation for clean water. Other board members and residents suggested exploring regional or partnered facilities rather than county expansion, and one supervisor asked for an update from the infrastructure committee in a future meeting to provide clearer figures and public responses to recurring questions.
The board did not take formal action on the landfill at this meeting but several supervisors agreed to place an infrastructure update on a future agenda so members could question staff and review current projections and public sentiment.
