Commission directs attorney to ask Utah Inland Port Authority to remove county lands from Golden Spike project area

After a staff update on involvement with the Golden Spike/Utah Inland Port project area, the Box Elder County Commission voted to ask the Utah Inland Port Authority to remove county lands from participation in the project area.

Sean Milne, representing the Bear River Association of Governments and introduced as the county’s economic development director, told the commission there were "a number of non contiguous, bubbles or zones where there's economic opportunity forecast that might work with rail," but he had "nothing as of late" to report for the county. Following that update, Commissioner Perry moved that the county attorney draft correspondence asking the Inland Port Authority to remove Box Elder County lands from participation; Perry said he wanted county‑owned or county‑suggested land removed "as 1 of the participants in the inland port." The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

Commissioners framed the request as a protective step while the county reviews how participation in regional port projects aligns with local goals. The motion does not itself change existing contracts or municipal annexations but directs the attorney to open a formal dialogue with the Inland Port Authority.
