Commission schedules work session on water-quality ordinance proposals; County Board sets SSTS hearing

Commissioner Dave Whitney told the Planning Commission on June 4 that he had reviewed proposed ordinance amendments related to water quality prepared by the Lower St. Croix Watershed Partnership and that he planned to circulate written comments to fellow commissioners ahead of a June 18 special work session. Whitney said he had concerns with the proposals and was preparing written remarks for the Commission's review.
Director of Environmental Services Kurt Schneider noted the County Board had endorsed and scheduled a public hearing for June 17, 2026 to consider amendments to the County Subsurface Sewage Treatment System (SSTS) Ordinance that would address compliance inspections and which parties are authorized to complete them. Schneider suggested canceling the June 18 work session if consultants or commissioners had scheduling conflicts; commissioners concurred that the session could be canceled if conflicts prevented meaningful participation. County Commissioner Rick Greene reported on a recent groundbreaking for the Kendall Howard project in Chisago City and noted MnDOT's June 9 final public meeting on the Highway 8 study between Chisago City and Taylors Falls.
