The Board of Tax Roll Corrections of Kay County approved two clerical adjustments to the county tax roll during a brief May 11 meeting in Newkirk. Assessor Janell Leaming told the board that deeds for Certificates #8620 and #8621 had omitted 'less and except' language in their legal descriptions and that values were being adjusted to match the deeds.
"Assessor Leaming presented the Board with the clerical errors on the following: Certificates #8620 Bales, Ernie & Paula, deed filed and missed the less and except on legal description; therefore, this adjusting the valued according to the legal; #8621 Free, Adam C & Regina L, deed filed and less & except was missed on legal description; therefore, this as adjusting the value according to legal on deed." The board record shows the clerical corrections affected Certificate #8620 (amount -$34.00) and Certificate #8621 (+$34.00) for tax year 2025.
Chairman Jeff Kreger moved to approve the Error & Correction Certificates as presented; Assessor Leaming seconded. The motion carried with recorded votes of "Kreger, aye; Leaming, aye." The board did not take any further action on policy or procedure; the changes were described as clerical adjustments to align records with deed language.
The approvals were procedural: the values were corrected to reflect deed language and no new taxes, penalties, or policy changes were adopted at the meeting. The board adjourned at 10:32 a.m.
