Council moves to enforce updated nuisance code; city to hire mowing staff

The City of Sidney’s Nuisance Committee reported on steps to implement a nuisance-code update that takes effect May 20. Compliance Officer Deedee Schroder told the committee the update will trigger notices of defect for four properties that had previously been cited; she reported there were “a total of 5 warning properties on the list and 1 of the properties did clean up and abate the nuisance.”
Committee members discussed additional tools to assist property owners: Kale Rasmussen recommended sharing information about a county junk-vehicle program with affected properties, and Jessie Chamberlin said the city plans to hire staff to perform mowing for nuisance properties instead of using a contractor. The committee adjourned after recommending follow-up and no immediate council action was required beyond acknowledgment of the committee report.
