Council to promote existing transit options and pursue longer-term regional plan

Councilors separated short-term, actionable outreach from long-term planning on transportation. In the near term they directed staff to promote existing Virginia Regional Transit (VRT) services (Percival Connect) through social media, utility-bill mailers and QR-code materials so residents know how to use available on-demand and fixed-route options. Staff offered to prepare outreach materials and suggested the town could ask VRT to adjust stops if demand warrants.
For longer-term planning, councilors discussed pursuing a regional transportation plan to address systemic issues such as traffic flow and coordination with county and state partners. In parallel the council asked police and staff to conduct a safety evaluation of existing crosswalks, speed limits and lighting needs and to report back with recommendations that could feed into CIP prioritization.
