Nobles County approves 2026 preliminary levy cap 'not to exceed' 12% and schedules Dec. 2 public meeting

Administrator Bruce Heitkamp advised the board that a preliminary levy figure must be submitted to the Nobles County Auditor-Treasurer by Sept. 30, 2025 and that the certified figure is a not-to-exceed amount for taxes payable in 2026. The board approved a preliminary levy capped at 12% and set the statutory public meeting for Dec. 2, 2025 at 6:00 p.m.
Heitkamp noted the preliminary figure does not represent a final tax levy and that a final levy will be adopted later following the required public meeting and budget process. The board’s motion to approve the levy cap was moved by Commissioner Justin Ahlers and seconded by Commissioner Chris Dybevick.
