County staff told the board that the Reading Sewer Service District project recently received notification that grant funding may be available for 2026. Because incorporated villages like Reading are not specifically accounted for by some census products, staff said extra steps will be required to assemble a DEED Small Cities Development Program application. The board voted to preauthorize a funding application to the Minnesota Rural Water Association to provide interim financing while grants are pursued.
Staff also advised that additional engineering services and the purchase of land will be required to prepare the project for grant submittal. The preauthorization motion passed and staff will proceed with application steps and coordinate next actions with the county engineer and potential funders.
