Huachuca City council voted unanimously on March 12 to approve staff's submission of Congressionally Directed Spending requests seeking federal support for a new ladder truck and for water meter upgrades.
Town Manager Suzanne Harvey told the council the fire department's primary engine is nearing the end of its useful life and that replacement matters for fire response and the town's Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating, which can affect local insurance costs. Harvey said she had already submitted a CPF request to Congressman Juan Ciscomani and sought approval to also submit to Senator Mark Kelly. Harvey described a $1.3 million CPF request for a ladder truck with an estimated local match of roughly $200,000'$300,000, putting the total purchase near $1.5 million. She asked the council to prioritize the fire truck above water meter upgrades; the council approved that prioritization and the dual submission strategy unanimously.
Harvey cautioned that any awarded federal funds will require compliance with USDA Rural Development community facilities procedures and local matching funds, and that purchase and delivery timelines are long. Councilmembers signaled support for pursuing external funding to avoid large one-time impacts on the town's operating budget.
