Huachuca City amends animal code to remove shelter references, update licensing and chicken rules

On Feb. 12 the Huachuca City Council adopted Ordinance 2026-04 to amend Town Code Title 6 governing animals. The ordinance makes multiple changes: it revises expiration rules for licenses and vaccinations, removes references to a municipal animal shelter the Town no longer maintains, updates impoundment and adoption provisions, and adjusts rules concerning keeping chickens and use of traps for animal capture.
The ordinance was presented at second reading and adopted following a motion by Mayor Johann R. Wallace, seconded by Councilmember Christy Hirshberg. The minutes do not record public testimony or amendments to the proposal. The changes require the Town to update any enforcement materials and public-facing guidance to reflect the lack of a municipal shelter.
