Council authorizes drafting of firearms code changes to comply with state law

Attorney Thomas Benavidez told the council the town currently prohibits some activity that state law allows; he asked for authorization to prepare ordinances amending Section 18.100.210(D)(1) (Weapons Merchant Prohibited Home-Based Business Use), Section 9.20 (Minors Prohibited From Carrying Firearms) and Section 2.55.070 (Fees Chargeable By Police Before Firearms Transfer). The motion to prepare the ordinances was moved by Johann Wallace, seconded by Cynthia Butterworth, and passed unanimously.
No ordinance language was adopted at the meeting; the council approved only authorization to draft the amendments so the town code aligns with state preemption.
