The Coward County Board of Commissioners proclaimed March 18, 2025, as National Agriculture Day and invited members of the agricultural community to the dais to be recognized.
Caroline Trosback, agricultural development specialist (speaker 13), read the proclamation and thanked growers, landowners, Extension and local farm organizations. Local growers and representatives spoke in turn: Susie Gibson (Bowensville Farm and Nursery, speaker 14) thanked the board for support; Gabrielle Graham (speaker 16) and student Raleigh Sterling (speaker 3) represented the CASE agriculture program and Calvert FFA; Treasure Thomas (speaker 20) described her urban-farm microgreens operation; and Kathy Cosgrove (speaker 21) spoke as president of the Calvert County Farm Bureau and owner of Horseman Farm. The board highlighted agriculture as a key local industry with more than 285 farms and stewardship of over 24,600 acres as stated in the proclamation.
Why it matters: the recognition underscores agriculture's role in the county economy, promotes local markets and education programs (including FFA and school literacy initiatives tied to Maryland Ag Literacy Week), and connects producers with county economic-development staff.
