Council opened a public hearing on Item 25-007 (HB581 homestead exemption) and received no public comment. Councilmember Ruby Foster moved and Councilmember Camille Lowe seconded to opt in to HB581; the motion passed unanimously.
The City Attorney told the council that the change “has no impact if it is your primary residence” and reiterated that homeowners seeking the exemption must file with the Fulton County Board of Assessors by the county deadline (noted in council comments as March 31) for it to apply. The council’s action directs staff to implement the local opt-in and to publicize filing steps for residents.
