Police chief reports rising calls, grant approval and launches Citizens Police Academy

Police Chief Kevin Digou told the council the department experienced higher call volumes over the holiday season and noted several high‑speed travelers through the city, including vehicles clocked at over 100 mph. He described a recent domestic, non‑custodial kidnapping the department handled and said his grant request was approved in a reduced amount.
"We had some travelers come through our city at over 100 miles per hour and got to see more of Chatt Hills than they anticipated," Digou said. He said he will coordinate with Finance to purchase computers totaling about $40,000 with the grant funds.
Digou announced a Citizens Police Academy starting in March that will run about six weeks on Monday evenings. The first class will be limited to 15 participants; applicants must be Chattahoochee Hills residents or business owners, have no felony convictions, and complete an application. Detective Carter is listed as the contact for signups.
Councilmembers thanked the department for enforcement efforts and for offering the academy as a community engagement tool.
