Central Park to be relocated as part of downtown plan; council asks staff to save commemorative pavers

As part of the downtown redevelopment concept, staff proposed relocating the existing Central Park from its tucked-away west-side location to a more visible east-side position nearer Kentucky Street. Michael Quint said the plan is at a conceptual stage and that no construction funding has been identified.
A councilmember urged staff to salvage and reintegrate existing pavers bearing resident names into any new park design. "If staff could take some care to ultimately, if we do decide to move forward with this, to remove those pavers and save them, maybe incorporate them in the new park," a councilmember said. Another councilmember noted that MHNA had been part of the original park and asked staff to be careful with that history for the TV audience.
Quint warned the slide's square-foot numbers were placeholders and said schematics remain to be produced; he emphasized the relocation is intended to make the park more visible and usable but reiterated that final designs and funding are still to be determined.
