Selectmen table mower surplus after warranty questions, debate fleet plan

The board tabled a request to surplus a 2016 Toro Groundmaster (Asset 101451) after members raised questions about warranty coverage and whether the town should retain older equipment until a broader fleet-review is completed.
Speaker 1 read the request from purchasing agent Shay Davie on behalf of the recreation and parks director; several members pressed staff about the mower's condition and the warranty on its replacement. Speaker 7 (on the record from public works) told the board, "This one was already replaced. The new Ventrac mower, it was delivered back in January of this year." Despite that, Speaker 3 argued the board should hold off on surplus actions until fleet outcomes and personnel capacity were clearer: "I just think surplus in a mower is kind of the right signal right now," the member said, urging that equipment remain in service longer until the town can keep up with demand.
Members agreed to table the item until staff can provide replacement-warranty details and clearer documentation for future fleet decisions. The chair said the fleet ad hoc committee would supply quarterly or semiannual updates to improve transparency around replacements and budget planning.
