Commission presses for public education, workshops and online resources as BESS ordinance work proceeds

Commissioners emphasized that public education should be a formal part of the Battery Energy Storage System ordinance process. John Robbins of NIACOG recommended an educational phase and pointed to a Solar and Battery Workshop at NIACC presented by Iowa State University Extension; Robbins said battery storage and solar land uses would receive roughly equal attention at that workshop.
Members suggested a panel consisting of county engineers, conservation officials, airport managers, and zoning administrators, and discussed recording sessions for posting on the county website. Robbins said he would seek input on public engagement and return with suggested topics and potential participants.
