Commissioners discussed continuing participation in the Marquette Community Corrections Program (TriCap) for fiscal year 2027. Proponents highlighted the program's ability to divert people from jail and to provide pretrial and post-sentence supervision, while some commissioners raised concerns about administrative burdens, additional paperwork and gaps in communication when participants leave the program without notice.
Those operational concerns included ensuring prompt notification of the sheriff's office if a participant "walks off" the program and having courtroom and probation contacts in place. After discussion, a motion was made and the board voted to participate for FY2027 for Bridal's portion, allowing the county to use TriCap for pretrial diversions for local defendants while continuing to evaluate expansion of services later.
Commissioners asked staff to confirm how client transport and notification will be handled and to report back if communication issues are not resolved.
