Public questions university and aquarium funding from wind industry; panelists defend independence

Bethany said his organization took industry funds "to be involved in the monitoring" so fishermen and trusted researchers could access the data and publish results. Andy Lipsky and other scientists pointed to independent peer review and disclosure requirements for published studies as safeguards against bias.
Panelists acknowledged perceptions of conflict and urged clear disclosure of funding and publication rights, and recommended collaborative agreements that preserve the right to publish and share monitoring data with the public.
