Staff informed the commission that City Council recently directed publication of aggregated employee demographic data and that the project passed legal review. "Employees can voluntarily opt in to share their data. Only aggregated summaries are published to ensure individual privacy," Christie Barnes said during the briefing.
Commissioners raised questions about how the data will be displayed (by department or as a citywide summary), what the city will use the data for, and whether small departments with few employees could make aggregated reporting less informative. Staff said the directive came from council and that publication timing and exact display details were still being determined.
