Commissioners moved to appoint Commissioner Zepeda as chair after discussing term length and whether nominees had expressed interest. The motion to appoint Commissioner Zepeda carried "motion passes 4 0," and the commission then proceeded to nominate and appoint a co-chair. "So seeing as the official vote has passed, Commissioner Williamson is for the rest of this meeting, being chair," staff announced after the appointment.
Commissioners discussed that chairmanship is not strictly defined in bylaws and that the commission can change the chair or have the chair step down during the term. The co-chair role was described as filling in to lead meetings when the chair is absent; the motion to appoint the co-chair passed 4–0 as well.
