Visit McKinney previews large spring events expected to draw thousands downtown

Aaron Warner, executive director at Visit McKinney, briefed the board on recent and upcoming events that will bring visitors and spending to downtown McKinney. He said the PPA Texas Open last weekend was broadcast live and that the McKinney historic 0.5 (March 28) was over 90% sold with a target of about 4,200 runners at full capacity. "Between runners and spectators, we should have between 9,000 and 10,000 people in Downtown McKinney that Saturday morning," Warner said.
Warner also outlined the international girls cup April 1–5 with roughly 1,520 athletes (about 125–120 teams) expected at Craig Ranch soccer complex, and said planning is underway for World Cup–related local events with nearby Frisco designated as a host city. He invited board members to coordinate promotions to bring spectators into local businesses and said Visit McKinney will continue outreach to maximize economic benefit.
