Lake Ontario Fruit Team outlines research to support Wayne County growers; CCE reports new nutrition educator programs

Craig Kahlke, Lake Ontario Fruit Team Leader, told the Wayne County Economic Development and Planning Committee on March 4 that the Team is carrying out applied research, educational outreach, and technical assistance aimed at supporting the region’s fruit industry and helping local growers adopt best practices.
Nancy Gift, Director of the Wayne County Cornell Cooperative Extension, said the Extension will miss longstanding supporter Brian Manktelow, who is not seeking re-election, and that his successor will need briefings on CCE programs. Gift also said the County-funded Nutritional Educator "is doing well in her role" and has several new programs starting that were not possible under SNAP-Ed program rules; the educator is scheduled to present to the committee later this year with further updates.
The presentation and subsequent remarks emphasized partnerships between CCE and county efforts to sustain the agricultural economy through research, outreach, and nutrition programming. No formal vote or directive was recorded on the presentation itself.
