County Attorney John Swain presented a series of reclassifications to reflect structural changes in the planning office and child-protective services (CPS) workload. He described raising an office-manager classification and assistant salaries and proposed making one planning research position an attorney assigned to platting work. “When I did, it left a void, so I moved one of the research positions into an attorney position...,” he explained.
Swain also described incoming grant revenue tied to 287(g) and border-patrol verification work and noted Senate Bill 22 supplements that aid prosecutor salaries; he said some of the new funds would be used for equipment and that the net increase in his office’s budget was modest after taking the grant money into account. Committee members asked clarifying questions about whether figures included supplements and how recurring those grant dollars are.
