Buildings and grounds seeks vehicles, mowers and pay increases after taking on new facilities

Mark Long, director of buildings and grounds, asked the court for equipment and staff to maintain new county facilities and to retain skilled craftsmen. He said his crew has done substantial in-house work on the recently acquired senior center at 1105 Santa Fe and cited a $40,000 repair to kitchen drain lines to keep Meals on Wheels operating.
"What we're asking for this year are 2 2500 crew cab pickups, to replace aging vehicles and then 2 0 turn mowers and 2 part time lawn technicians," Mark said. He also requested a 5% salary increase for department staff to retain skilled HVAC, electrical, plumbing and carpentry personnel. Commissioners praised the in-house savings and asked staff to include cost comparisons when the budget committee meets.
