Jeff, the district attorney, presented three staffing-focused requests: a full assistant DA position (he listed the salary at $123,326 based on county pay grades), a market-competitive pay supplement for three DA investigators (about $15,675 total), and alignment of victim-assistance coordinator pay with the county attorney’s equivalent plus a $2,000 certification incentive to create a career track.
"The salary amount requested for that is $123,326," Jeff said about the assistant DA position, and he described pressures from rising caseloads—about 1,300 indictments a year—and a surge in juvenile cases in summer months that make intake and grand-jury work labor-intensive. He argued investigator pay needs to be competitive with sheriff sergeant pay to retain experienced investigators who perform digital and complex follow-up work.
Commissioners asked about alternative funding and timing, and Jeff suggested phasing hires or using SB22 supplement funds where allowed. The court did not decide on any position approvals at the meeting and asked for additional cost-offset options to be considered during budget deliberations.
