Board approves lamb shearing standard and goat fitting guidance ahead of fair

The Fair Board on April 21 approved changes to market lamb and goat show rules ahead of the county fair.
Sabrina Jafek moved and Marilyn Christensen seconded a revision requiring that "all market lambs must be totally and uniformly slick shorn prior to weigh-in. No more than 1/4" of wool left on. Lambs must have been shorn within five days of County Fair weigh in." The board discussed club lamb fungus concerns and passed the motion.
For meat goats the board approved Youth Livestock #10 leaving fitting to the exhibitor's discretion while requiring animals be shown in natural conformation and color. The board also affirmed that exhibitors may use halters or collars when showing market goats (Youth Livestock #9) and approved allowed lifting motions in show technique (Youth Livestock #11).
Fair staff will update exhibitor guidelines to reflect the timing and trimming standards and to reiterate sanitary expectations prior to weigh‑in.
