South Miami approves FY25 budget; general fund rises to $27.33 million

The City Commission approved the fiscal year 2025 budget at its Sept. 17 second hearing, adopting the proposed adjustments presented by staff. Finance staff said the proposed changes would raise the general fund from $26,920,484 to $27,331,206, reflecting additions such as a full-time grant administrator and investments in digitization and facility services; staff described a total appropriation figure in the presentation of $44,000,009.
CFO (presenting): "What's going to be adopted tonight, assuming you approve all of the changes that we recommended, [is] 27,331,206 from general fund for a total of $44,000,009.00." Commissioners then moved and seconded the motion to adopt Item 2 with the agreed modification on parking-enforcement funds. The clerk called the roll and the budget passed by a 4–0 vote.
The commission also discussed limiting the release of funds for a Girl Scout property until agreements with the organization are finalized and directed staff to follow up on repurposing certain parking-enforcement contract hours for visitor-assistance/ambassador work.
