South Miami adopts final millage rate of 3.95% at second budget hearing

The commission opened a public hearing on the millage, and the city attorney read the statutorily required disclosure that the final rate exceeds the rollback rate by 3.6351, an 8.66% increase.
City Attorney: "The city of South Miami tonight is hereby adopting the final millage rate, which is 3.9500 ... the final millage rate exceeds the rollback rate by 3.6351, which is 8.66% increase, which is statutorily characterized as a property tax increase." The clerk then called the roll for the final vote; four members voted yes and the motion passed.
There were no in-person or online speakers during the millage public hearing. The attorney confirmed the meeting had the requisite quorum to take final action. With the millage adopted, the commission closed that item and proceeded to the FY25 budget public hearing.
