Public Health hires nurse, outlines multi-year vaping prevention plan funded by JUUL settlement

Alyssa Broome-Quissimisse, director of Public Health, told the committee that the department has met a near-term staffing goal: a full-time Public Health Nurse has been hired and will begin employment on August 3, 2026, narrowly missing the July 31 target.
Broome-Quissimisse described plans to reorganize the department around a population-based public health model and to launch a multi-year vaping prevention program using JUUL settlement funds in partnership with the Yates Prevention Coalition. The department will conduct a county-wide vaping needs assessment and community mapping and has a survey out for parents and students in grades 7–12.
