Torrey committee asks Legislature to approve 175th-anniversary time capsule resolution

Grant Downs, co-chair of the Town of Torrey 175th Commemoration Committee, asked the Government Operations Committee on July 6 to forward a resolution recognizing the town’s 175th anniversary to the full Yates County Legislature and to place the signed resolution in a time capsule. "We intend to put it at Washington Square, across from the Dresden Hotel, and in 25 years at the 200th anniversary of the town of Torrey, we would unearth it and examine the contents," Downs said.
Downs said there will be an open house on Aug. 25 at the Dresden United Methodist Church from 5 to 7 p.m. to display items selected for the capsule and to give community members an opportunity to sign the resolution before the capsule is buried in September. Committee Chair Pat Killen confirmed there were no objections to forwarding the item after minor discussion and edits. The committee accepted the presentation as information and will place the formal resolution on the Legislature agenda for consideration.
