Recreation Department to draft responsibilities as Selectboard moves to clarify 2025 budget request

The Selectboard on Dec. 18 asked the Recreation Department to provide a written summary of its responsibilities to clarify which tasks the department performs and which are town maintenance duties as the board reviews 2025 budget requests.
Ruth Casey, identified as co‑chair of the Recreation Department, said no written document currently exists. The Selectboard asked Casey to draft a statement that will cover mowing, tree trimming, playground equipment maintenance and safety, and other tasks the department proposes as its responsibilities. The board said it will use that list to budget and, where appropriate, contract services to ensure the work is completed.
Board members suggested contacting school principals for guidance on playground maintenance and noted past arrangements that used a Town Handyman for miscellaneous tasks. The Recreation Department will be invited to a future meeting to review appropriation requests and the drafted responsibilities document.
