Sheriff tells budget reviewers equipment orders depend on pay structure; vacancies hamper hiring

Committee members acknowledged the point and discussed prioritizing salary adjustments and lateral pay in tandem with equipment approvals. Staff compiled the total new-employee capital/non-capital requests and presented an estimate of roughly $1.63 million if all positions and related equipment were funded; the Sheriff's office indicated the salary restructure would be the highest priority for making positions fillable.
