The sheriff’s representative described participation in a federal 287(g)-style task force incentive program and outlined potential one-time and recurring incentives tied to participation. "So $15,000 per deputy per 0.25, which is $60,000 per deputy times 78 is just, $4,680,000," the speaker said, using the program's per‑deputy incentive math to illustrate potential funding that could be used for equipment and IT — with the caveat that program rules require an immigration nexus and limit eligible expenditures.
Commissioners discussed recruitment, lateral pay, and how incentive funds could be used (noting some restrictions). The court asked for more precise cost models showing current salary plan impacts and the budgetary effect of the proposed reclassifications and new positions.
