South Miami commission adopts tentative FY2025 budget; motion passes 5–0

The CFO and manager outlined several line-item changes compared with the July workshop, including maintaining the millage at 3.9500, using approximately $570,000 in insurance savings to offset other increases, adding two staff positions (an administrative services coordinator and a dedicated streets/maintenance worker for the town center), and larger capital items such as $3,340,000 in the CIP for the Dante facility and $828,000 to fund two traffic circles. The vote was recorded by roll call and passed 5–0.
Commissioners asked for additional information on items that will need further follow-up — including the proposed regional SWAT capacity, the scope and cost for invasive-species remediation at the Girl Scout Little House site, potential changes to the city’s residential waste-pickup threshold, and possible adjustments to parking enforcement staffing — and asked staff to return cost estimates at the next budget hearing.
