Tonasket launches CAP "Tiger Way" summer store; district plans kitchen and shower for work-readiness

At the May 27 board meeting, Secondary Special Education teacher Alisa Weddle presented the Community Access Program (CAP) "Tiger Way" store, describing it as a student-led effort that will operate this summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Weddle thanked the community for ongoing support and said the program is building a professional learning community through partnerships with other districts; she noted that the Omak mayor has expressed interest in adopting a similar model. High school principal Irving Smith echoed the positive impact of the store on school climate and student opportunities.
MTSS Director Kristi Krieg provided related facilities and program updates: the district is pursuing development of a commercial kitchen as a hands-on culinary classroom and plans to install a shower facility to support students who lack home amenities, both framed as part of job-readiness and Tiger Way expansions. Krieg also tied these changes to State and Federal resource funding and the district's small works roster for facility work.
