Juvenile arrests, detention and recidivism figures presented to Jerome County commissioners

The juvenile corrections report for Oct. 1, 2024–Sept. 30, 2025 recorded 55 youth arrests, 44 detention admissions and a 16% recidivism rate; juvenile probation reported a 100% probation success rate and 89% diversion success rate.
Jeff Miller presented the Department of Juvenile Corrections annual data covering Oct. 1, 2024 through Sept. 30, 2025. Miller said there were 55 youth arrests, 44 youth admitted to detention and 144 charges filed during the year: 33 felonies, 86 misdemeanors and 25 status offenses.
Mario Umana, reporting for juvenile probation, said there are 94 juveniles on probation, 14 new probation intakes during the previous month and 12 case closures. He reported $1,289 collected in fees. For the 12-month-to-year metrics presented, the state-calculated probation success rate was 100% and the diversion success rate was 89%; over 24 months the recidivism rate was 16%.
Umana said some staff shift rotations will start when the local school district moves to a four-day week.
