South Central Public Health seeks $270,704 from Jerome County for FY27; plans building expansion

Logan Hudson, director of South Central Public Health District, presented the district's proposed FY27 budget to the board and said a public hearing on the district budget will be held next month.
Hudson said one of the principal drivers of the budget increase is a planned expansion of the district building in Jerome; the district recently received just over one acre south of the current office to site the expansion. Under the district's formula, Jerome County's assessed increase is $750, bringing the county contribution to $270,704.
Staff from the health district discussed programmatic items: Makayla Harral, the dietician who works on WIC, said WIC enrollment has fallen and the department faces staffing shortages; Tanis Maxwell described infectious-disease surveillance and immunization services provided at the Jerome location; and Josh Jensen summarized environmental-health activities including review of projects such as a National Guard facility and new RV park.
