Page County approves $897,750 budget amendment to fund school staff bonuses

The Page County Board of Supervisors voted May 18 to approve a fiscal-year 2026 budget amendment allocating $897,750 to Page County Public Schools to fund one-time retention bonuses.
Finance Director Tyler Olsen said the General Assembly approved $311,135 in state funds for the bonuses and the county would provide a local match of $586,615. "This would enable the school division to provide $1,500 each to all full-time staff and $750 each to all part-time staff," Olsen told the Board. The proposed appropriation was allocated across program lines: $693,371 to Instruction, $62,842 to Administration/Attendance/Health, $53,865 to Transportation, $26,933 to Operations and Maintenance, $8,977 to Technology, and $51,762 to Food Services.
The Board approved the revenue and expenditures in a motion by Supervisor Ryan Cubbage, seconded by Supervisor Jeremy Baldwin; the motion carried unanimously, 6-0. Olsen said the bonuses are intended as retention pay and will only be paid to staff who remain employed after the school year; he also noted staff contracts determine full-time or part-time status and that SOQ positions (including certain supervisory roles) are included per state guidance. County staff and the school division plan to apply any unspent bonus funds toward correcting the school division's projected deficit if necessary.
