Fort Myers plans SPIN micromobility demo with geofenced downtown zones

Explaining the technology, staff said the system can automatically reduce vehicle speed in certain blocks and create no-ride zones that stop vehicles where needed. "If you're going from MLK And Henry down to, say, 1st Street or Edwards...it automatically drops to 8 miles an hour," staff said, describing the geofence functionality. The city plans demonstration rides, training sessions and invitation-only preview events for council and staff before any full activation.
The board discussed liability language in the app agreement and asked staff to provide more detail on safety education and enforcement before the demo date is scheduled.
